πΆ 80's Church Newsletter - "St. Elmo's Fire" and Isaiah 40:31 π¦
Dear 80's Church Family,
π Welcome back to another edition of "80's Church," where we explore the timeless wisdom found in 80s songs and connect them with scripture for our spiritual growth. Today, we delve into John Parr's classic hit, "St. Elmo's Fire," and pair it with the encouraging words of Isaiah 40:31. π΅
Song: "St. Elmo's Fire" by John Parr πΈ
*"I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky,
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher." π *
John Parr wrote St. Elmos fire as a tribute to paraplegic athlete /warrior Rick Hansen whose Man in Motion world Tour saw him wheel around the world for more that 2 years to raise $ for spinal cord Research
Devotional: Rising on Eagle's Wings π¦
In "St. Elmo's Fire," John Parr sings about reaching for new horizons and soaring higher like an eagle. This imagery aligns beautifully with the message of Isaiah 40:31:
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."* - Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) π
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that when we put our hope and trust in the Lord, He renews our strength. Just like eagles, we can rise above the challenges and obstacles in our lives. "St. Elmo's Fire" encourages us to set our sights on new horizons, and Isaiah reminds us that our strength for this journey comes from the Lord. π
Takeaways and Reflections: π€
1. Hope in the Lord: In the face of difficulties and trials, we can find hope in the Lord. This hope is the source of our strength, enabling us to face challenges with courage and perseverance. π
2. Soar Like Eagles: Just as eagles soar high above, we too can rise above our circumstances when we trust in God. He gives us the ability to overcome and thrive. π
3. Set New Horizons: The song encourages us to dream big and reach for new horizons. In our faith journey, let's set goals and aspirations that align with God's purpose for our lives. π
4. Renewed Strength: Remember that our strength is not limited; it can be renewed through our relationship with God. When we spend time in prayer, worship, and studying His Word, our strength is revitalized. π
5. Perseverance: Like the lyrics of the song, we can keep moving forward, even when it seems tough. God promises that we can run and not grow weary and walk and not faint when we rely on Him. πββοΈ
As we reflect on "St. Elmo's Fire" and Isaiah 40:31, may we find the inspiration to keep pursuing our dreams, trusting in the Lord's strength, and soaring like eagles through the challenges of life. π
Eagles are a thing around the house right now, We have two living in our front yard.
Let's keep the 80's spirit alive as we continue to explore the music and messages of that era (ok we are adding the 1970βs also). Remember, the soundtrack of our lives can often be a source of inspiration and encouragement. πΆ
Stay tuned for more 80's Church devotionals in the future!
